Meet the Team: Ali De Backer

We’ve had a number of new followers and visitors around here since lockdown so we thought it was a great opportunity to introduce ourselves to new faces and give familiar ones a chance to get to know us and our roles a little better.

First up is Ali, our newest team member joining us in November 2019.

Q. What do you do at the Isle of Man Arts Council and in what circumstances would I come to you for something?

I am the Arts Administrator. If you need help with completing an application and if you are unsure which “Fund” to apply for I can do my best help you!

Q. What led you to this career?

Being involved with the Community in Castletown and working with creative people over the past few years. I’m also very interested in Film and Music so that is a huge bonus.

Q. What’s one thing that surprised you about working at the Isle of Man Arts Council?

How many talented and creative people we have on the Island!

Q. What’s the biggest misconception people have about the Isle of Man Arts Council?

That it is for the “elite” of the Arts. It isn’t, myself and my colleagues are working very hard to reach out and help everyone who is involved with the Arts and promoting being creative.

Q. If you could add one thing to the office, what would it be?

BBC6 Music and a proper coffee machine!

Q. What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

Weekends are very busy for me as I have three Children, so when we have done all the children’s club’s we watch a film, go for big walks in Glens and I try to get out to meet up with friends to watch Live Music if I can.

Q. If you could only have three apps on your smartphone, which would you pick?

Spotify, BBC Sounds and Instagram.

Q. What is your favourite song right now?

I’m listening to Mustang Sally by Wilson Pickett as it’s a song I’m performing for my drum exam which has had to be re arranged due to Covid-19.
