Meet the Team: Jane Corkill

We’ve had a number of new followers around here since lockdown so we thought it was a great opportunity to introduce ourselves to new faces and give familiar ones a chance to get to know us and our roles a little better.

Next up is our manager Jane, who has been working with us since July 2018.

Q. What do you do at the Isle of Man Arts Council and in what circumstances would I come to you for something?

I’m the Arts Development Manager and it’s my role to head up the Arts Team, to look after the Arts Council and to work with all our artists and creatives to develop and promote the arts. I also currently line manage the Youth Arts Centre on Kensington Road.

Q. What led you to this career?

I’ve been passionate about the arts all my life.  When this role came along, I absolutely knew it was the job for me!  I love every day of it and all the different and interesting challenges it brings.  We have an amazing Arts Team and I feel really privileged and lucky to work with such brilliant people.

Q. What’s one thing that surprised you about working at the Isle of Man Arts Council?

I am constantly surprised by the wide ranging and exceptional talent this Island produces – it is exceptional in every way.  Every week – often daily – we find ourselves saying “wow” at a new project or work!

Q. What’s the biggest misconception people have about the Isle of Man Arts Council?

I think that people believe that Arts Council only deal with the highbrow side of the arts, and they couldn’t be more wrong when it comes to the Isle of Man Arts Council.  Anything creative goes!

Q. If you could add one thing to the office, what would it be?

A big pink sofa!!

Q. What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

Weekends are family time for me – and I love getting out into the countryside to walk or ride my bike.  South Barrule is my favourite spot!

Q. If you could only have three apps on your smartphone, which would you pick?

Apple Music – Facebook - Kindle

Q. What is your favourite song right now?

Sad in Scandinavia by Seeb & Zak Abel
