Work Experience: Niamh and Nicole

This week we've had two work experience students with us from St. Ninian's High School from Year 10, Niamh Page and Nicole Haslett. Both of them are passionate about the arts and have certainly brought a smile to everyone's faces in the office, particularly during such an uncertain time on the island. Despite many of their planned activities unfortunately being cancelled due to an increased atmosphere of self-isolation, their spirit has remained unshaken and their enthusiasm has been a welcome addition to our usual working week. We caught up with the two of them about how they've found it all.

Nicole Haslett

Age : 15
School : St Ninians high school

What kind of work have you been doing this week?

Meetings, creating posters, creating a magazine, sorting art work, meeting the team, gaiety tour

Favourite job or experience of the week?

My favourite job was making the posters and the magazine because it was creative and we could design them how ever we wanted. My favourite experience was the gaiety theatre tour because it was very interesting and fun.

Any surprising work you found out about that you didn’t know we do?

I did not know that the arts council has an art collection.

What creative activities and hobbies do you do?

I do ballroom dancing, I play guitar at school and I teach myself chords outside of school, and I also do compositions in my music lessons.

How can people find out about similar activities or hobbies you do?

Through the school, or word of mouth.

Are you hoping to have a career in the Arts? If so what and why?

I really enjoy music: like playing guitar and producing music, so I would love to have a career in the arts, because I feel like it would be really fun and interesting.

Do you think the Arts Council is important? Why?

I believe the arts council is extremely important because it helps connect all the people with the same interests can connect and help each other through the arts.
