Jo Callister

Jo has represented Department of Education, Sport and Culture on the IoM Arts Council since her appointment as DESC Advisory Teacher for the Manx Curriculum in 2011.

Raised and Educated on the Isle of Man, Jo attended the University College of Ripon and York St John where she gained a BA (QTS) Hons in Music. Returning to the Island Jo then taught at Scoill Vallajeelt Primary school for 15 years before taking up her current Advisory role at DESC.

Jo teaches piano and also accompanies one of the Island's leading choirs. She has played the penny whistle for the dance group Ny Fennee and attended the Interceltique festival in Lorient several times, including representing the Island at the huge Year of the Isle of Man in Lorient in 2015. In the past Jo was member of the Shennaghys Jiu organising committee and more recently is now a member of the Yn Chruinnaght, Celtic Gathering committee. As part of her DESC Advisory role Jo works closely with Manx National Heritage and Culture Vannin and is also a Manx speaker and professional face painter, specialising in festival glitter.

As the DESC representative on IoM Arts Council Jo provides a valuable link to the Island's schools.
