M.Q. Tate

Max Tate is a chemist, animator, writer, and illustrator from the Isle of Man. In 2021, Max started work on the YouTube series Tatefacts, a collection of animated shorts on the elements of the periodic table. Through this series, Max has collaborated with academics and content creators from all over the world, such as Dr Tom Crawford from Oxford University. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Chemistry at Cardiff University, where he continues to work on new episodes in his spare time.

Outside of labs, Max enjoys writing on a wide variety of topics. His short story, Martin and Rupert Go To The Shops, was nominated in the Cracked Anvil Flash Fiction contest, and was published in 2022. His article Gaelg as Bretnish: A Tale of Two Languages, a piece that highlights the differences between Celtic language culture on the Isle of Man and Wales, was published on the website Shebeg in 2023. In his downtime, Max enjoys reading Terry Pratchett books, playing tabletop games with his friends, and attempting to solve cryptic crosswords - usually, unsuccessfully.
