Sravanti Mazumdar
I was born in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India, and I have a long history as a recording artist and broadcaster in both radio and television.
I have learned Classical music from Ustad Aminuddin Dagar and Ustad Munawar Ali Khan. My Rabindranath Tagore’s music which is known as Rabindra Sangeet, Guru was Srimati Maya Sen. I have learnt folk music from Dindendra Chowdhury and last but not the least Mr V. Balsara and Mr Sudhin Dasgupta - two of the great musicians of India - their contribution in Modern and Contemporary Music in my life was immense.
I have previously released music through HMV Saregama-India. Releasing over 30 albums / singles / EPs during my career and singing for over 20 films.
I now now live, write and record on the Isle of Man.
I am currently working on a project to record versions of songs by Rabindranath Tagore - India's first Nobel Laureate in literature. I am working with a variety of musicians, initially from the Isle of Man, mixing elements of Indian / Bengali traditional music with Manx Celtic Folk. I have a number of other projects in the pipeline, including re-recording some of my old material with musicians here on the Isle of Man.
