Isle of Man Arts Council announces annual student awards
The Isle of Man Arts Council (“IOMAC”) has announced the recipients of their annual student awards for 2021/22. Awarded to students moving into or currently in further or higher education, the three awards are each worth £10,000 over the duration of a course.
The Jonathan Gollow Award for Performing Arts has been awarded to Joshua Morrison, who will be attending the Rambert Conservatoire in London to study for his degree in Ballet and Contemporary Dance.

Joshua said: “It has been always been my dream to attend a prestigious dance school and Rambert was my first choice. Winning this award will hopefully encourage other young boys to follow their passion for dance and show them that with hard work, dedication and belief in yourself you can achieve anything. It is also a testament to my dance teachers on the Isle of Man and my family who have always been a huge support.
The Norman Sayle Award for Visual Art and Literature has been awarded to Jack Gentry who will be attending Cardiff Metropolitan University for a BA (Hons) degree in Product Design.
Jack said: “Receiving this award gives me the chance to have a worry free first year to settle in and focus on my studying at university. After two years completing my A-level courses during a global pandemic it lifts a massive worry and strain off me knowing that I can start Uni life without the financial worries that goes alongside student life. For this I am really grateful to the Isle of Man Arts Council.”
The Isle of Man Arts Council Award has been awarded to Kizzie Puzzar who will be studying for a BA (Hons) in the Music Business and Event Management at the BIMM Institute (British and Irish Modern Music) in Brighton;

Kizzie said: “Receiving this award has honestly been life changing; so much stress has been lifted off my shoulders and I feel extremely honoured to have been the applicant chosen for the award. I’m excited to learn about new ways to make an event run smoothly and it really feels as though a lot of my hard work in my chosen field is being rewarded and that is very validating!”

Chairman of the Isle of Man Arts Council, Mrs Marlene Maska MLC commented “Knowing the challenges which still face so many of our students in these difficult times, I am privileged to be involved in this really positive news and proud that IOMAC is able to offer support to these very talented young people. The standard of applications was extremely high which made for very difficult decisions by Council.
I feel sure that I speak for all Members of IOMAC, together with DESC, our Sponsoring Department, when I offer warmest congratulations to all three of our recipients and wish them well in their chosen studies on the pathway to a future career in the Arts.”
The Awards are named in memory of former Isle of Man Arts Council members, music promoter Jonathan Gollow and artist Norman Sayle, and are awarded annually.
