Celebrate Black History Month with these creative and informative podcasts

To mark Black History Month we have been listening to a variety of podcasts with a creative and informative content, here are two we would like to share:

.

Beyond Black History Month Podcast

Beyond Black History Month delves into Black History all year round, one we especially enjoyed was "The Birth of Hip-Hop: Part 1"

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop, a cultural movement that rose from the humble beginnings in the Bronx New York, which fuelled a worldwide phenomenon, this podcast episode explores the history behind this huge cultural and musical movement that has evolved over the past 50 years from the birth of scratching to needle drop.

The Black Curriculum: Sounds of Black Britain

The Black Curriculum podcast use music as an educational resource to understand the Black British experience.
Cultural host Julie Adenuga and special guests deep dive into the musical history of Black Britain.

This immersive podcast series celebrates the culture and education of Black Britain and the music it has brought us!

Our favourite episode was Episode 4 "The Power of Ska" which looks at Jamaican Musical Culture's influence on UK Scenes and styles through Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae and Dancehall. In this episode host Julie talks to iconic music producer Dennis Bovell MBE who is considered on of the most iconic producers in British music History.

Both episodes can be found on all streaming and listening platforms.
