Isle of Man Children's Poetry Trail 2022

The Isle of Man Poetry Trail has run for 10 years as a poetry competition for adults with winning poems printed on beautiful yellow A4 posters and displayed in windows around Douglas. Now there is a Poetry Trail for School Years 7, 8 and 9 where winning posters will be put up from Friday 8th April to Wednesday 4th May 2022.

All entered poems will be printed in a booklet which will be for sale.

The closing date for entries is Friday 18th February. Entry forms can be found in your Libraries or ask your English Teacher. You can also email the organiser bethany@manxcat.org.uk or find them below.

Rules:

  • Poems should be less than 25 lines.
  • Make sure to complete an entry form to accompany the submission.
  • No entry fee
  • Maximum of 3 poems per person.

Guidelines for Entry

Childrens Poetry Trail 2022 Entry Guidelines

1) Entries are invited for inclusion in the IOM Children's Poetry Trail 2022, run by the IOM Poetry Society.
2) This Poetry Trail will be run in similar fashion to the adult Poetry Trail that has run for 7 years.
3) Pupils in school years 7, 8 and 9 can enter this competition. Maximum 3 poems per child.
4) Poem(s) must be type-written in a Times New Roman font
5) Poems must be no more than 25 lines (excluding title). No theme but suitable for public display.
6) The ten prizes will be awarded to the best ten poems in all these year groups together.
7) Every poet can only win once. When a poem is chosen all the other poems for that poet are removed.
8) The 10 winning poets will have their poem designed and printed onto a yellow A4 poster.
9) These posters will be visible forming a Trail around Douglas Town Centre.
10) Trail Guides will be available from Douglas HBN Library and the Family Library.
11) All  submitted poems will be included in a Booklet which will be on sale, after the Trail, from the Poetry Society Office (email address below)
12) How to submit a poem:
pick up an entry form from School or Douglas HBN Library, Family Library or email (as below)
A) scan the completed entry form, with Guardians Signature, and poem(s) in word, (preferably
NOT pdf), attach to an email  and  send to the email address below by: Friday 18th February 2022
B) post the completed entry form, with Guardians Signature and poem(s) to:   “10 Derwent Drive, Onchan, IM3 2DG” by Friday 18th February 2022.
13) The entries will be judged by two judges who will be looking for poems that entertain and inspire.
14) The judging  will be confidential and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the selection.
15) By submitting an entry, you agree to your poem being included in the Children's Poetry Trail 2022
16) By submitting a poem(s) you agree to all poems printed in a Children's Poetry Trail Booklet.
