Isle of Man Arts Council announces applications open for annual student awards
The Isle of Man Arts Council has announced the opening of applications for student awards for 2022/23 supporting students studying the Arts and who are moving into further and higher education.
The three annual awards are each worth £10,000 over the duration of a course and they exist to help to cover the costs of travel, course fees, accommodation or equipment related to higher or further education in the Arts on or off island:
- The Jonathan Gollow Award for Performing Arts in memory of the late music promoter Jonathan 'Jonno' Gollow who was a valued member of the Isle of Man Arts Council until 2012 and who sadly passed away suddenly in 2017.
- The Norman Sayle Award for Visual Art and Literature in memory of the most celebrated Manx artist of recent times, Noman Sayle RI TH (1926-2007) who was also a dedicated teacher and a former Isle of Man Arts Council member.
- The Isle of Man Arts Council Award is to be awarded to a student whose extenuating personal circumstances may be preventing their further studies within the arts.
Marlene Maska MLC, Chair of the Isle of Man Arts Council and Department Member for Education, Sport and Culture, said: ‘The talent of our Island’s young people is being increasingly recognised beyond our shores. We sincerely hope that the recipients will truly benefit from the awards during their developing careers.’
Arts Development Manager, Jane Corkill said: ‘The Isle of Man Arts Council is delighted to support three new Manx students. There is such talent amongst our young people, it is hoped that these substantial awards will truly make a difference to the future of the recipients within the arts and the creative industries.’
Applications for the awards can be made by the Isle of Man Arts Council website: www.iomarts.com and will close on 24th June 2022, with the three recipients being informed after the Isle of Man Arts Council meeting on 8th July.
