The Isle of Man Arts Council are delighted to announce that “Ellyn: A Tale of Manx Contemporary Art”, a collaborative art book and exhibition at the Villa Marina Arcade, will now be open for a further week until Sunday 17th October.

After a successful first week, the exhibition will now continue to run daily between 10am and 4pm until Sunday, 17th October owing to high footfall and positive public reaction.

The exhibition, in partnership with UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man, showcases the work of over 60 artworks by artists with a Manx connection living both locally and afar.

Arts Development Manager Jane Corkill said “We have been overwhelmed by the response of the public to “Ellyn”.  It has been described as “stunning”, “brilliant artwork” and “an inspiration to the next generation”, and we have seen almost 1,000 people of all ages coming into the Villa Marina Arcade to enjoy and appreciate the outstanding art.”

The book, titled "Ellyn: A Tale of Manx Contemporary Art" ("Ellyn" being the Manx word for "Art"), aims to celebrate and cherish the Isle of Man in the form of contemporary fine art. The Isle of Man Arts Council collected artwork from over 60 artists through a process of invitation and open call, who each created work that responded to the theme “Isle of Man” and what this means to them.

The project has been led by Arts Graduate Intern, Olivia Savage who commented, “Since “Ellyn” launched to the public, we have had such an amazing response, both in footfall and sale of “Ellyn” softback books and in kind words from visitors. We are so excited to share this exhibition with the community for another week!”

All questions regarding the book and exhibition should be directed to Olivia Savage at Olivia.Savage@gov.im.

Copies of the “Ellyn” softback edition can be purchased at the exhibition, at local bookshops Bridge Bookshop, The Lexicon and Mostly Manx, the Manx Museum and online via Quirky.im.
