Jade's Spotify Playlist
We're on Spotify! To celebrate the launch of our new profile we've been creating our own playlists and inviting our Arts Council members to do the same. Here we are featuring Jade Boylan who is a professional Illustrator and Graphic Designer and has been on the Isle of Man Arts Council since 2019.
Why is music important to you?
Most of my earliest memories involve music, whether it was listening to my uncle Eddie play Blues harmonica in my Nan’s kitchen or singing along to David Bowie and Queen in my Mum’s car (apparently as a toddler I would sing along VERY loudly from my carseat to Dolly Parton’s Jolene). There was always music playing in our house and I remember looking forward to family car trips as a child because it meant lots of sing-a-longs to bands like The Fureys, The Bee Gees and The Beatles. I have music playing constantly in my studio while I work, and while what I listen to seems to change by the day, I can’t work without it.
What can we expect to hear in your playlist?
I listen to loads of different types of music but one thing I listen to A LOT is Blues. I grew up listening to this kind of music on cassette and vinyl so whenever I hear these songs it’s like a timewarp to my childhood. The playlist starts off with early Blues and moves on to some tracks from bands that started out in Blues (like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac) and modern artists with a strong Bluesy influence like Hozier and Davy Knowles.
What is your favourite song right now?
It’s not Blues (shock horror!) but recently i’ve been listening to American dream pop band Cigarettes After Sex. I’ve had Heavenly on repeat a lot lately along with Hell and Back by The Airborne Toxic Event and Beautiful Crime by Tamer (that’s 3 favourites, sorry!).
