Meet our students: Joshua Morrison

Joshua Morrison is our 2021/22 recipient of The Jonathan Gollow Award for Performing Arts and will be attending the Rambert Conservatoire in London to study for his degree in Ballet and Contemporary Dance. We caught up with Joshua who will be starting their course in September to tell us more about what they're most looking forward to from their first semester.

What and where will you be studying?

Studying Degree in Contemporary dance and ballet at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in Twickenham

What does receiving this award mean to you?

It means a lot, it makes all my hard work so worthwhile and raises awareness of boys who dance.  It has always been my dream to attend a prestigious dance school and Rambert was always my first choice after attending a summer school there a few years ago.  Growing up on a small island has given me lots of opportunities but it can be difficult being a male dancer in a predominantly female art form on the Isle of Man.  Winning this award will hopefully encourage other young boys to follow their passion for dance and show them that with hard work, dedication and belief in yourself that you can achieve anything.  It is also a testament to my dance teachers on the Isle of Man and my family who have always been a huge support.

How will this award make a difference?

Living in London is expensive and I will use this award to subsidise my accommodation and travel costs over the next three years.

What are you most looking forward to about your course?

I am excited about developing myself as a dancer and being surrounded by like minded people who will challenge me to become the best version of myself.
